5 Signs Your Air Conditioner Won't Survive Another Summer

1. Your AC Unit is Over 10-15 Years Old

Even a well-maintained air conditioner has a finite lifespan. In the Bay Area, a central AC unit typically lasts 12-15 years. If your system is in or past this age range, it's operating on borrowed time. It uses older, less efficient technology, and the risk of a major component failure (like the compressor) increases dramatically.

2. Your Repair Bills Are Adding Up

Are you on a first-name basis with your HVAC repair tech? A single, minor repair isn't a red flag, but a pattern of them is. If you've had to pay for multiple repairs over the last two seasons, those costs are adding up. Use the "50% Rule": If the cost of a repair is approaching 50% of the value of a new system, a replacement is almost always the smarter financial decision.

3. Your Summer Energy Bills Were Shockingly High
